Sports Open Group. Building a sustainable sports economy

SOG CSR EVENTS

Sport, Sustainability and Social Impact in Africa.

SOG CSR Events creates a platform for using the power and reach of sport to address the challenges facing our communities.

WHY THIS MATTERS

The future of sport is connected to the world around it.

Africa is facing growing challenges from climate change, environmental degradation, public health risks, youth unemployment and social inequality. These challenges affect communities and increasingly influence the future of sport, from playing conditions and infrastructure to the health, safety and wellbeing of athletes and fans.

Our work is guided by our core principle of Planet, People and Performance, recognising that a sustainable sports ecosystem must protect the planet, put people at the centre and strengthen the long term performance and resilience of sport.

ONE SHARED PRINCIPLE

  • PlanetProtect our environment
  • PeoplePut communities first
  • PerformanceBuild resilience in sport

OUR FOCUS

Six interconnected areas.
A shared purpose.

Sport and Climate Action

Make climate action practical and relevant to the sports community.

Safeguarding

Protect children and young people and encourage safe participation.

Youth Development

Support young people to build skills, confidence and opportunity through sport.

Education

Strengthen understanding through learning and knowledge sharing.

Player Welfare

Support the health, safety and wellbeing of players and athletes.

Social Impact

Use sport to create positive outcomes for communities.

HOW WE BRING PEOPLE TOGETHER

Understanding that leads to practical action.

Seminars · Webinars · Workshops
Campaigns · Knowledge sharing

Through seminars, webinars, workshops, campaigns and knowledge sharing events, we bring together clubs, federations, athletes, players, coaches, young people, fans, communities, sponsors and other stakeholders to build understanding and encourage practical action.

We aim to make complex issues simple, practical and relevant to the sports community, helping stakeholders understand climate action, protect children and young people, support player wellbeing, strengthen education and create positive social outcomes through sport.

WHAT INFORMS OUR WORK

A wider framework for responsible sport.

Our programmes are informed by international frameworks and initiatives, including the UNFCCC Sports for Climate Action Framework, the UN Sustainable Development Goals, FIFA and CAF sustainability priorities, and wider principles relating to human rights, safeguarding and responsible sport.

Through SOG CSR Events, we seek to turn awareness into action and use sport as a platform for a healthier planet, empowered people and stronger sporting performance.

Accountability from the start.

Our reporting approach is to track each supported project against a clear purpose, funding allocation and agreed outcomes. Project updates will show progress, reporting dates and how results are measured.
